What is foot arthritis and what causes it?

Arthritis is an acute or chronic inflammation of a joint and its surrounding soft tissue in the feet. Osteoarthritis (wear and tear arthritis) is most common and can cause pain, swelling and possibly deformity in the feet and ankles. Other forms include rheumatoid arthritis, autoimmune disease affecting joints, tissues and organs and post traumatic arthritis, caused by injury to the foot or ankle.

What are the possible treatments for foot arthritis?

The treatment of the arthritis in the foot would depend on several factors including the type, location and severity. Steroid medications are injected to minimize the swelling of the area. Oral or topical anti-inflammatory drugs are also used to reduce swelling and minimize discomfort. Custom Made Orthotics Kitchener Waterloo help cushion the joints against pressure and impact when moving and walking.

Other treatments include use of braces, canes and stretching techniques to help feet stay strong.
